Try the café conversation →No sign-in needed to read and listen. The first time, confirm the language for translations.
1. Open your first lesson
Use the button above to open the lesson. To try a different moment, such as greeting someone new or paying at the register, choose it from “Course”.
Choose a conversation from the course →
2. Listen, then check the meaning
Press “Play” to hear it once, then “Show transcript” to see the Japanese with an English translation. If it feels fast, change the “Playback speed”.
You don’t need to read every character yet. Follow along with the translation and notice the sounds that come back, like お願いします (onegaishimasu, “please”).
3. Say one line out loud
Listen to one line and say it after the audio. You can swap アイスカフェラテ (iced café latte) for the drink you actually want.
4. Save it and come back
Save a line you want to say again with the bookmark icon. Next time, play it from “Progress” → “Practice later”. Saving needs a free account.
Phrases you save under “Key phrases” are in “Progress” → “Saved phrases”.
5. Let Home pick today’s practice
Once you sign in, Home shows “Today’s picks” and “Today’s line”: a conversation to hear and one line to try saying before you see the model. Lines come back after a few days, so you can check whether you can still say them.
You can also record yourself shadowing a lesson and get an AI review. How many reviews you can send each month depends on your plan.
This guide is based on the web app in English. Screens and features may change with updates and by plan.
